On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County ReStore staff, board members and North Myrtle Beach area community leaders will gather to officially open the long-awaited resale store for shopping. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and Little River Chamber of Commerce will take place
at 9:30am.

Since 1996, the Habitat for Humanity of Horry County ReStore has served the Myrtle Beach and Socastee areas of Horry County through their first location. In the last fiscal year, the current store kept 2,300 tons of materials out of local landfills and helped to fund the construction of numerous
Habitat homes.

According to Habitat for Humanity (habitat.org), when the first ReStore opened in 1991, “their vision was clear: keep new and used home and building materials out of the waste stream while helping fund Habitat’s home-, hope- and community-building work. Customers came from all over to find
deals on windows, doors, paint, hardware, tools, furniture, appliances and decor to spruce up their own homes while helping others build and secure theirs….The are close to 900 ReStore locations in 49 states of the US, all contributing to Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent
place to live. Since most of the merchandise for sale in these stores is donated by local residents and businesses, no two ReStores are exactly alike — and neither are their beginnings.”

“The Habitat ReStore is far more than a typical thrift store. It is a crucial funding source for our mission to build homes, communities, and hope for deserving residents of Horry County,” states Meagan Michal, Executive Director. “This expansion will fuel the growth of Habitat for Humanity of
Horry County's endeavors, including new home construction, maintenance and repair initiatives, financial education programs, and community outreach projects. Horry County is a great place to bring people together around a mission that is good for every resident. We are so happy to be a
new part of the retail community in Longs, South Carolina.”

The organization has constructed a 20,000 square foot ReStore facility just off Highway 9 in Longs, Colonial Charters. Opening a second ReStore allows the organization to serve more of the county while also raising even more funds to support the mission of building homes in partnership with
families, right here in the Horry County community. “Our staff and volunteers are excited and ready to celebrate the opening of our second store
location. With the new location, we’re able to serve more of the county,” states Joey Gregory, ReStore Director. “There has been so much support from our community to make this new location a reality. We can’t wait to see how our ReStores can help impact our mission of building safe and affordable housing while also supporting our many other programs at Habitat for Humanity of Horry County.”
