Description

Brenda  Bevan Remmes lives in the Salem Black River Community at exit 135 south of Florence  in an old family home filled with the history of generations past.  Her first book, Everything Happens at the Crossroads,  is a narrative history of the descendants of  EW Dabbs and Maude McBride of Sumter County and was published in 2008.  Her debut novel, The Quaker Café, was bought by Lake Union Publishing in 2014 for worldwide distribution.  It has sold over 100,000 copies. The sequel,  Home to Cedar Branch, is due out in January 2016.

Between 1999 and 2005 Brenda coordinated activates for USC medical students doing rural rotations.  Prior to moving to South Carolina, she worked with The University of North Carolina School of Medicine in rural health education.  

Brenda’s stories and articles have appeared in Newsweek, The Petigru Review, The Southern Sampler,  The Pee Dee, Caroliniana  Columns, and academic journals. Recently, she and her fellow Camden writers published an anthology called Serving Up Memory as a tribute to some of the lives of past individuals from that area.  She recently completed a narrative history of her mother-in-law titled Emma.
