SUMMARY:Museum of Coastal Carolina Presents Art by Reid Stowe
DESCRIPTION:Museum of Coastal Carolina presents the grand opening of a new art exhibit in its Coastal Gallery. Called Flight into Abstraction\, the exhibit features paintings by Reid Stowe. Stowe is an American painter and sailor known for his creation of art while on record-breaking world voyage sailing adventures. There will be a reception with the artist on September 13 from 3:00 to 5:00 at the Museum of Coastal Carolina.\n\n\n\nThe theme Flight into Abstraction begins with Reid's paintings of birds flying. These paintings begin to transform into fascinating multimedia collages that combine various styles\, techniques\, and symbols. Stowe writes that "Experience is the prime source of inspiration and creation for me. I find this by living at sea in a state of oneness with humanity\, nature and the universe I want to illuminate the hidden with my art and reflect love and wonder into other minds and hearts."\n\n\n\nReid Stowe was born in 1952 in Washington but spent most of his summers in North\n\nCarolina at his family's beach house in Ocean Isle Beach. He discovered art at a young age and grew up experimenting with various styles. As a teenager\, Stowe was introduced to ocean sailing. He built two boats in the front yard of his family's beach house and went on numerous expeditions. In 2007\, Stowe departed on his epic three year non-stop ocean voyage. He holds the record for the longest non-stop sea voyage in history without resupply and the record for the longest non-stop solo sea voyage. Stowe's artwork and his sailing adventures are closely intertwined.\n\n\n\nReid Stowe will return to the Museum of Coastal Carolina on October 8 at 6:00 PM with a presentation titled One Thousand Days Non-stop at Sea. On December 8 at 7:00 PM\, he will be at Ingram Planetarium with a presentation titled The Mars Ocean Odyssey.\n\nThe Museum of Coastal Carolina is located at 21 East Second Street in Ocean Isle Beach\, NC. Ingram Planetarium is located at 7625 High Market Street in Sunset Beach\, NC. Admission to each facility is free for members. Non-member admission is $8 for adults (13-61)\, $7 for seniors (62+)\, $6 for children (3-12)\, and free for ages 2 and under.
